Trips

We organise reasonably priced coach outings each year and an evening visit for members using their own transport to local gardens.

David Austin Roses July 2024

The Baldock Horticultural Society's recent coach trip to the renowned David Austin Roses in Wolverhampton was met with great enthusiasm and joy by its members. Held on the 3rd of July, the excursion provided a memorable day out amidst some of the most exquisite rose gardens in the world.

Members were treated to the sight of six themed gardens, each filled with over 700 varieties of roses. As one of the finest rose gardens globally, David Austin Roses lived up to its reputation, being one of only three gardens in England awarded the Garden of Excellence by the World Federation of Rose Societies. The National Collection of English Roses was a highlight, offering an incredible array of blooms.

Hitchin Lavender 2023

The Baldock Horticultural Society organised a trip to Hitchin Lavender. It's so close to Baldock, but going there with our fellow members was nice. First, we were treated to tea and lavender cake which tasted incredible.

Afterwards, we had a guided tour from the owner's son who talked about the different varieties, harvesting oil, and the products they sell at the shop. The tour was very informative and interesting. When we got to the top of the hill, the sun just came out, and it was beautiful to see the lavender in the sunlight.

There were plenty of opportunities to harvest lavender and put it in the bags that they supplied. The lavender we harvested can be used for baking, decorations or certainly to help us sleep at night.
